Have You Heard (Response Magazine)

Denise DuBarry is recognized and admired as one who traverses the two worlds of entertainment and direct marketing with ease and grace.   As an actress, Denise amassed an impressive array of credits as a cast member of the hit network series “Black Sheep Squadron” and “Charlie’s Angels’ as well as a memorable role in the classic motion picture “Being There.”  Always entrepreneurial, Denise co-founded Thane International with her husband Bill Hays and launched a number of infomercial hits – such as Play The Piano Overnight, California Beauty, OrbiTrek Total Body Trainer, among many others – that have grossed over one billion dollars.  RESPONSE Have You Heard caught up with Denise to learn that this much-admired first lady of direct response continues to develop and launch DRTV campaigns (her latest efforts include “Don Sullivan’s The Perfect Dog” and the HSN top-selling “Pilates Power Gym”) while she has recently reignited her entertainment industry activity as exdcutive producer of the motion picture “Shoot the Hero.”  Under her banner Blue Moxie Entertainment, Denise produced the action-adventure film that stars Jason Mewes (Clerks, Zach and Miri), Samantha Lockwood (who happens to be Denise' daughter) Danny Trejo (Predators, Machete) Nick Turturro (NYPD) and Fred Williamson (The Hammer).  Denise finalized a DVD distribution of her film with Warners Digital Distribution, which will release “Shoot the Hero” October 1.  She has also positioned the title for pay per view and video on demand via Lantern Lane and international distribution  via Shoreline Entertainment.  The film website Joblo said: "3 outta 4!' "...an entertaining, genre-hopping good time…” while Buzzine.com wrote "Shoot the Hero is a fun, wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am, edge-of-your-seat ride and an instant cult-classic with a cerebral bent."  Variety said "…Shoot the Hero happily flouts its love for Tarantino/Rodriguez-style comic violence."

Many of us were disappointed last year when the television show Hidden Palms - whose pilot was shot in Palm Springs moved to Phoenix after the show was picked up by the CW network.  Although the series lasted only six weeks, those were six weeks of shooting that could have generated work for local resident who work in the film and television industry.
